Two elderly men were burned to death when junta soldiers went on an arson spree in Sagaing Region.

The remains of the victims, aged 84-years-old and 85-years-old, were recovered in the villages of Indaing Lay and Satpyarkin in Tabayin township, where soldiers razed the houses earlier in the week.

They were unwell and unable to flee when the Burma Army torched the villages, according to a local information group.

"We called on the villagers to bring along the elderly person when fleeing your homes to avoid being caught in the fighting,” the group said.

Members of the anti-junta people’s defence forces (PDF) were able to rescue several more elderly persons and pregnant women when junta troops burned down the villages of Indaing Lay and Chaung Nar.

Due to the arson attack in recent days, more than 10 villages in Tabayin township were destroyed.
