The issue of the limiting the amount of daily withdrawal from the banks has been re-imposed this week, after the junta announced to take actions against seven private banks for lending larger amount of money beyond their limitation.
Consequently, many people tried to withdraw their money and it led to limitation in the daily withdrawal amount. Meanwhile, the central bank of the junta said Wednesday through the junta-owned media that it did issue any rule to limit the amount. But on the same day, junta representatives met with representatives of private banks and top officials of the central bank and warned them against violating their existing rules.
Eight people were missing in ferry sinking
Eight people went missing on Wednesday when a passenger ferry capsized and sank inhaling River in Kyimyintaing township in Yangon.
The ferry left the Seik Gyi U Mya port and was bound for Yangon, carrying 17 people when it collided with a cargo ship and capsized before it sank.
Those rescued from the accident were brought to the Yangon General Hospital for treatment.
More than 400 people were infected from cholera
A cholera outbreak hit Yangon last week, inflecting more than 430 people who were rushed to various hospitals for treatment.
Some news media reported the cholera outbreak was first detected in Thaketa and Dawbon townships and at least five people died from the disease.
But the junta refused to acknowledge the death toll and over 250 infected people were discharged after treatment at the hospitals.
Junta declares Chinese New Year a public holiday
The declared Chinese New Year a public holiday in the hope of gaining favor from China and help it resolve the festering conflicts in Northern Shan State. It also declared the Western New Year(January 1) a public holiday.
After the Northern Alliance Brotherhood resumed hostilities with junta troops in Northern Shan State recently, former president U Thein Sein and deputy chief in commander Soe Win visited China. After the visits, the junta declared Chinese New Year a public holiday.
TNLA seized Nawnghkio completely
The Ta’ang National Liberation Party (TNLA) attacked junta troops and seized the last junta outpost (No.606) in Nawnghkio on Wednesday.
Accordingly, Nawnghkio becomes the first victory for the Brotherhood Alliance after restarting the 1027 operation last month. But some civilians accused TNLA fighters of seizing some houses in Nawnghkio.
Wa troops entered in Tangyan
While the battles intensified in Northern Shan state, the United Wa State Army ( UWSA) sent thousands of troops from their administered zone to Tangyan located in the west bank of Salween river.
The spokesperson from UWSA said the deployment aims to prevent the clashes from spreading to Tangyan.
Nevertheless, the Wa army could seize three cities from junta control even without firing their guns.
