The summer days came to an end with drops of rain in June, but the hardships the Myanmar people face since the 2021 power grab still remains. Also, the shelters for the displaced people become a major concern as rainy days begin Schools in cities are crowded and lively with the children wearing school uniforms but some children would not get a chance to wear them. Amid the skyrocketing inflation, the people’s miseries appear unstoppable like the rains that started on Saturday.

 

Issuing arrest warrants to gold shop owners

 

The junta issued arrest warrants against 10 gold refinery shop owners for allegedly selling overpriced gold at the price of 52 lakhs per 1 tical. Those that face arrest are the owners of Academy gold refinery, Aung Thamardi, Zwe Htet, Weint Sein, Khayan Thongwa, Sein Kyaw Mow, Shwe Zin Win. But Shwe Nan Daw and Sein Nan Daw gold shops and refinery allegedly owned by Minister of Tourism, Dr. Thet Thet Khine was excluded from the list.

 

Dozens of money exchange traders charged for illegal trading

 

The junta also took actions against 39 currency exchange traders accused of illegally selling and trading foreign currency. They were charged with violating the money laundering law and some financial laws. At the same time, junta ordered to freeze their bank accounts and money transfers.

 

Moreover, the central bank announced it would take actions against illegal digital money exchangers and hundis services. On 03 June before any official announcement, junta troops arrested 14 people accused of manipulating the currency exchange.

 

Russia endorses nuclear plant installation in Myanmar

 

Russia said it is willing to help in constructing and installing a small nuclear reactor in Myanmar that can produce at least 110 megawatts of power.

 

The Russian government endorsed the basic draft of cooperation in installation of nuclear plant on 03 June. As described in the proposal, Russia agreed to help in the design and construction of the plant, as well as in supplying the required mechanisms.

 

Russia’s state owned energy company Rosatom and representatives of the junta signed a memorandum of request on the potential installation of nuclear reactors in November 2022.

 

Australia and NUG discuss humanitarian assistance

 

The foreign affairs ministers of Australia and Myanmar’s National Unity Government (NUG) held a discussion about humanitarian assistance, the NUG said in a statement. They met in Canberra, Australia on 04 June and discussed ways of providing humanitarian assistance to Myanmar. The United Nations (UN) noted the struggle of humanity is at risk in Myanmar.

 

Banning of changing passport from PJ to PV

 

The junta forbade the change of passport application from PJ to PV since 06 June. This is the next move after banning men between 23 to 31-years-old to work abroad.

 

Due to the ban in working abroad and recruiting people for military service trainings, the people inside Myanmar change their PJ passport to PV so they can leave the country.
