The recent news about the death of the famous monk in Bago, Sayadaw Bhaddanta Munindabhivamsa jolted the Myanmar people and Buddhist monk community.
Sayadaw Bhaddanta Munindabhivamsa and Sayadaw Bhaddanta Gunikabhivamsa, the abbot of Kanthonhsint left from Tada U airport in Mandalay when junta troops shoot them.
Sayadaw Bhaddanta Munindabhivamsa died from gunshot wounds while Kanthonhsint Sayadaw suffered injuries.
Immediately after the incident, the local news media reported the incident. Meanwhile, junta media outlets claimed the Sayadaw was shot by the members of people’s defence forces or PDFs.
But Kanthonhsint Sayadaw who was with Sayadaw Bhaddanta Munindabhivamsa disputed the claims of junta media, insisting that junta troops shot them.
Sayadaw Bhaddanta Munindabhivamsa was 77 years old and he was famous for being abbot of the important Win Namitta Monastery in the city of Bago. He authored many religious books.
Flower strikes marks birthday of former State Counselor
The people living in Yangon, Mandalay, Sagaing, Magwe, Karen, Kachin and Thanintharyi celebrated the 79th birthday of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi by donating roses to Buddha, wearing roses and joining in flower strikes.
Junta authorities arrested at least 22 people who joined the flower strikes.
Military leader plans to hold elections in 2025
During his trip to Myeikhtila last Saturday, the chief-in-commander General Min Aung Hlaing disclosed his administration’s plan to hold general elections in 2025 after conducting census in October.
At the same time, some analysts claimed that the plan would not be implemented under unstable circumstances of junta’s failures to control the areas.
Acting president of junta is being hospitalized
Some news reports claimed that the acting president of junta, U Myint Swe is under the medical treatment at the Yangon hospital. They assumed that he suffered from diabetes, hypertension and adult disease.
He retired as a lieutenant general in the military and became the acting president after the military takeover in 2021.
Special envoy of China visited Myanmar
China’s special envoy to Myanmar, Deng Xijun visited Naypyitaw on Tuesday and met with junta foreign minister U Than Swe. He visited Myanmar amid the outbreak of fighting in Rakhine state and Northern Shan state.
The junta stated they intend to accelerate cooperation to ensure the stability of border areas and vowed closer collaboration with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the United Nations.
AA urges residents to leave Maungdaw
The Arakan Army (AA) warned the people living in Maungdaw to leave the place as the ethnic armed group planned to attack military outposts in the township.
Most of the junta outposts have been seized, while the remaining military camps have been surrounded by Arakan Army forces. Maungdaw is the city where most of the residents are Rohingya Muslims, with a few Hindu, Rakhine communities.
