January 25, Yangon

The auction for Daw Aung San Suu Kyi's home in Yangon ended without a bidder.

The auction on 20 March started at a price of 315 billion Myanmar Kyats.

The officials from the Kamaryut District Court led the auction of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s two-storey house that sits on a two-acre land along 54 University Avenue in Yangon.

The case lasted for over least two decades since Aung San Oo appealed the court in 2011 to split into half the house to be divided between her and her brother.

In 2016, the Yangon Western District Court ordered the split of the home and land into half.

However, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s brother, Aung San Oo, appealed several times as he complained it was unfair. But his appeals were rejected.

The case dragged on again until the military coup in February 2021.  On August 22, the Supreme Court ordered the auction of the property as desired by Aung San Oo.

After a year and half, on January 25, 2024, the Kamaryut District Court set the date of the auction.

The government gave the house to Daw Khin Kyi, wife of General Aung San after his assassination.

Khin Kyi stayed in the house until her last breath and Daw Aung Suu Kyi also stayed in the house the whole time during her house arrest.

In the lat 2010, after Suu Kyi was released from her house arrest, many foreign visitors visited the home. Former U.S President Obama, Hillary Clinton and former U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki Mon were among them.
