The 79th Anniversary of the Armed Forces Day (Revolution day) was held in Naypyidaw on 27 March unlike in the previous years.

 

This year’s parade did not showcase tanks, armors and military arms but the marching of women soldiers.

 

During the event, the chief-in-commander Min Aung Hlaing talked about the implementation of conscription law that can strengthen the defence forces. It would also result in stability and rule of law in country.

 

The junta leader also belied accusations that young people are being used in mobilization and attacked some ethnic armed groups as dangerous groups that are trading drugs and destroying the natural resources. These ethnic armed groups allegedly recruit villagers and arm them.

 

On Wednesday night, an explosion occurred at the checkpoint near the intersection of Sule Pagoda road and Anawyatha road, considered as the center Yangon. Five people, including two children, were injured in the explosion.

 

Elections to be held separately

 

The chief-in-commander Min Aung Hlaing told Russia’s media outlet ITAR-TAAS that the general elections would be held separately in the appropriate places in Myanmar.

 

He said the criteria on where polls could be held include the accuracy of voters list as well as stability of the peace and order situation. But the junta leader did not set the timeframe on when to hold elections.

 

He claimed the economic situations in Myanmar worsened since 2018 under civilian-led NLD administration and improved since the junta seized power in 2021.

 

Thailand provides cross-border humanitarian assistance to Myanmar

 

Thailand provided food, medicines and other supplies to Karen State from Maesouk on Monday under its cross-border humanitarian assistance programme.

 

The distribution of assistance to residents of three Karen cities was supervised by ASEAN Humanitarian Assistance Coordination Office with the help of the Myanmar Red Cross Association.”

 

But the observers said the Myanmar Red Cross Association is an ally of junta and the assistance might not reach to the people who really need it.

 

Military jet crashes in Mandalay region

 

A military jet crashed near Pyitharyar ward in Meikhtila township in Mandalay region last Tuesday. But the junta said the fighter jet did not crash but made emergency landing due to technical error.

 

It said two people aboard the jet were not injured and the aircraft suffered only slight damages.

 

At least four military jets and three fighter jets crashed after the junta grabbed power in 2021.

 

Allied revolutionary forces gain foothold in Hpapun

 

The allied force of Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and people’s defence forces PDFs gained control of Hpapun after a week of besieging the town. The junta troops retreated about three miles outside the town. Hpapun is a town where clashes frequently occurred before and after the military takeover.

 

Two Karenni fighters sentenced to 20 years of imprisonment

 

The Karenni National Defense Force imposed 20 years imprisonment sentence to its two comrades found guilty of killing a detained civilian. The KNDF said the victim was a 27-years-old man was detained on drug charges.

 

The two suspects were tried under the KNDF military laws. It is the first incident the group meted out prison sentence to comrades found guilty of killing a person.
