Junta troops have been deployed at some basic education schools in Insein, Mayangone and Hlaing townships in Yangon, residents said.
"At night, they patrol around our neighborhood. Dogs were barking when they pass by. In the morning, they wore civilians' clothes and guard in hiding," said a resident of Insein.
Some parents have stopped sending their children to schools, while some schools have closed down.
"The military troops are deploying at the school near Muditar housing and inside the monastery in front of that school," said a resident of Mayangone.
Residents claimed that young people have been reportedly targeted and inspected by the military troops in Yangon.
Security has been tightened in Yangon after a North Korea team arrived in Yangon on November 18 to compete against Myanmar football team for the 2026 World Cup Qualifying match.
