Students from the schools have been forced to return home in Sisai town in Pa-Oh Self-Administered Region in Shan state on November 20 amid fear fighting might erupt any time, locals said.
"The teachers let them go home around 11:30 a.m. Normally, they are finished school around 3 p.m. There were many parents who didn't send their kids to school. The kids weren't studying that day. I don't know what to do," said a mother from Sisai town.
Residents of Sisai were worried about the news that resistance forces will be attacking the military outposts in Sisai town in three days starting from November 20.
"I am afraid of sending my kids to school as they might be stuck there if something happened. The previous day, military helicopters flew over the town and we are afraid that there might be a war here," said a resident.
The fighting have intensified in Loikaw, Karenni state, which is just an hour drive from Sisai town and majority of the Karenni displaced people have to pass through Sisai town and other townships in order to flee the war.
