Drone battles in Nay Pyi Taw
The headquarters of the junta, the military head office and the airport in Nay Pyi Taw were attacked by drones. The defense ministry of the National Unity Government (NUG) said the attack was carried out by the technical force of the peoples’ defence forces (PDFs). But the details and the extent of damage of the attacks were not revealed.
Meanwhile the junta said they shot down seven drones flying in Nay Pyi Taw airport and Zayyar Thiri township and there was no damage resulting from the attack. But some residents said Nay Pyi Taw airport was closed temporarily due to that attack.
Fire in Pe Nwe Kone market in Bago
On 02 April, a fire broke out in Pe Nwe Kone village in Kyauk Taga township in Bago Region. Around 450 shops were burned down and the fire took four hours to put out. The fire broke out from the electric shock and nine houses near the market were also burned down. There were no reported injuries due to the fire.
Junta took actions against gold traders
Junta officials took actions against seven gold shops and refinery shops in Yangon and Mandalay for not complying with the regulations. The gold and currency market monitoring and steering committee of the central bank said those shops were operating without the business license and some of them were running their illegal businesses for a decade.
China’s military drills in Myanmar’s border
China carried out military drills for two days in border of China and Myanmar in Yunan state, where frequent clashes between junta troops and ethnic armed groups erupt. China carried out ground and naval operations during the two-day exercise. The movement within that area was highly restricted.
UN asked for banning of aviation fuel trade to Myanmar
The United Nations Human Rights Council asked the international community to stop selling aviation fuel oil to Myanmar so as to take actions against the Myanmar military, which has been convicted of crimes against humanity. Moreover, the council urges the international community to stop illegal arms trade with Myanmar.
China’s ambassador visits former junta officials
China’s ambassador to Myanmar affairs, Chen Hai visited Myanmar and met with former chief-in-commander Than Shwe and his deputy Maung Aye and former President Thein Sein on 05 April.
The Chinese diplomat also met with Daw Than Nu, a daughter of former Prime Minister U Nu, former chairman of China Myanmar Friendship Association U Sein Win Aung and several more people," the China Embassy said.
It added Chen visited Myanmar to welcome the Thingyan season or the Myanmar New Year. He expressed support for the peace, national reconciliation, and economic and socioeconomic developments in Myanmar. He also hopes to strengthen relationship between Myanmar and China.
Myanmar junta gives up strategic outpost in Kachin state
The Sinlum strategic outpost along Bhamo-Lwegel Road, which has been a key base of the military in Kachin state for the past 60 years, was completely seized by Kachin Independence Army (KIA). The Sinlum strategic outpost is a vital frontline outpost of the junta. It serves as a military based since 1962 under U Ne Win administration, the first Myanmar military dictator.
Junta arrested deputy defense minister
The junta detained deputy defense minister General Aung Lin Htun on suspicion of involvement in online betting. The arrest was made following a request from Chinese authorities.
Amid pressure from China, the military council handed former USDP officials and Kokant bosses and militia leaders suspected of involvement in online gambling to China.
Only UID holders are allowed to cross borders
The junta said only people with Unique Identity Number (UID) holders are allowed to pass through the country’s land borders The UID numbers are ten-digit numbers that are handed to people above 10 years old under the supervision of Immigration and Population Department.
Starting from 01 May, when applying to pass through Thailand, China and India borders, holders of National Identity Cards are not allowed and only people with UID would be permitted to cross these borders.
Previously, people can across borders using ID cards, BP (Temporary Border Pass) and BP(Border Pass).
First open door discussion of Myanmar affairs in UNSC
The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) held on 04 April an open door meeting of Myanmar affairs for the first times after military the military seized power in 2021.
"During the discussion, Chinese deputy permanent representative Geng Shuang said China is committed to their objective involvement in the stability of Rakhine state," according to China owned CGTN media.
