The Thadingyut festival would be celebrated this week to marked the descent of Buddha after preaching his mother, Maya in heaven. People used to celebrate this festival by lighting up the candles, lanterns and decorating with electric lights. The junta tried to hide the country's actual situation by organizing various celebrations to launch the start of the festival. A day before Thadingyut Full Moon Day is the 1000th Day under the military rule. Within that journey, more than 4,000 people were killed, 20,000 are being detained and 1.6 million people were displaced.

 

Around 20 people in Sagaing were convicted with long-term imprisonment

 

About 20 people accused of supporting the parallel National Unity Government (NUG) in five townships of Sagaing were convicted and sentenced to long-term imprisonment. Moreover, Four minors residing in Ye-U, Monywa, Paungbyin and Budalin were convicted for violations of terrorism laws. They have been detained since 2022 sent to a training centre.

 

Obtaining permission to visit inmates in prisoners

 

 Four years after limiting the prison visitation, the junta permitted prison visits again this week. The rules and regulations related to prison visits still limit the family members of prisoners. Moreover, the junta did not permit visits to prisoners who have been sentence to less than 20 years imprisonment. Meanwhile, a female attorney submitted a proposal to meet with State Counselor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi.

 

 

NUG urged EU to impose more sanctions against junta supporters

 

The national Unity Government (NUG) urged the European Union (EU) to impose more sanctions against institutions and businesses supporting the military The NUG said that sanctions should not be limited to Myanmar-based entities such as the Myanmar Foreign Trade Bank (MFTB) and Myanma Investment and Commercial Bank( MICB), but European banks need to take actions like United Overseas Bank Singapore (UOB) who are conduits of these Myanmar business entities. Moreover, the NUG asked the EU to provide technical assistance and boycott of the general elections under the military regime.

 

Attempts to hold elections will lead to the violence and threaten the stability of the country, the NUG said. It also asked the EU to support moves to prevent junta representatives from attending UN and EU meetings.

 

Ten military leaders are prosecuted in Philippines

 

Ten military leaders including commander-in-chief General are facing complaints before the Philippine Justice Department. Five Chin people filed the complaints. They accused General Ming Aung Hlaing and the other respondents of committing crimes including massive killings and burning hundreds of religious buildings and houses in Thantlang, Chin state. The complainants are living in Canada, India and Great Britain.

 

1027 operation by three northern alliance groups

 

Members of the Northern Alliance, Arakan Army (AA), Ta'ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) and Myanmar Democratic Alliance Army ( MNDAA) announced the start of their widespread operations against junta forces in northern Shan State.

 

The announcement said that due to ongoing clashes, several highways have been closed to traffic, including the Lashio-Muse Pyi Htaung Su Road. The battles along that road have already reached the Chinshwehaw in China border.

 

The Operation 1027 aims to dislodged the junta from power.
